El Clásico Barcelona-Madrid is back at the Nou Camp

El Clásico Barcelona-Real Madrid at La Suite

This Saturday at 16:15 hrs at the Nou Camp we will once again enjoy the most important clash in the Spanish Liga: El Clásico FC Barcelona vs. Real Madrid C.F. The city of Barcelona will again host the Real Madrid supporters who pour in to follow their team and all those football fanatics who cannot miss such an awaited clash. Although we all know what El Clásico is, not many of us are aware of what this term means.

Why does the Barcelona vs. Madrid game get this name?

The Spanish Clásico, or more commonly known as El Clásico, is the most played football match between two Spanish football clubs. Historically, that honor went to the games between Athletic Club and Real Madrid, who had faced each other 215 times in the Liga and Copa until the start of the 2011-12 Season. Since then, it was surpassed by the matches between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF, though it is too true that this adjective was wrongly used since long ago.

A very tightly contested Clásico

The whites, league leaders with 33 points, look to consolidate their position by widening the gap with the Catalans, who are closely following them with 27 points in the kitty. Luis Enrique’s team has the same points as Sevilla, who on this matchday take on Granada on Friday.

The Catalans hope to triumph in their own backyard after having lost 1-2 in the last Clásico. They were luckier away from home in November last year, when they won 4-0 at the Bernabéu. A Catalan win at the Nou Camp this Saturday would be a very important step forward for Barcelona, as it would leave them just three points behind the leaders.

The Barça vs. Real Madrid Clásico will have thousands of euros on stake. As of today, Barcelona is the clear favorite with the big bookmakers.
